We are excited to see the completion and opening of Riverside Studios in Hammersmith, working in collaboration with C Watkins, AWA were responsible for the M&E design through to completion.
AWA were part of the design team to co-ordinate the M&E services for the commercial aspect of the design with the as-installed residential design that would run through parts of the Studios.
In 2014, Riverside Studios closed its doors for a much-needed renovation and the historic venue has undergone an incredible transformation, in its place now stands a state of the art facility that boasts modern television studios, two theatre spaces (500 and 200 seat capacity) and two cinema screens (208 and 48 seat capacity). This is in addition to Studio 8 café and bar and a high-end brasserie.
The new complex comprises of three studios, small, medium and large which are up to 12m high, a cinema and screening room, a rehearsal space and restaurants and bars looking out over the river, with the River Thames walkway opened in front of the building we will be an iconic destination point.
The new Riverside Studios occupies most of the ground floor, basement, first and second floors. The remainder of the building is residential apartments.
The studios had very stringent noise control criteria and the use of material intake and extract ducts it helped meet these.
‘Box-in-box’ construction methods acoustically separate the conflicting uses to allow the studios to contain in excess of 100dB, equivalent to a jet take-off – without any noise or vibration impacting residents.
The installation is equipped with full generator backup and uninterruptable power supplies to maintain studio operation in the event of a power cut, as space in the development is at a premium a bespoke switchgear panel was designed and installed to work within the tight spatial constraints.
Throughout the design and installation, AWA worked closely with the sub-contracting installation team along with working to meet the client’s criteria requirements.
We undertook the M&E design using Revit MEP 3D software to enable the size of the services throughout the basement areas and complex upper floors ensuring that plant can be safely installed and maintained.
